Zvi Gitelman is Professor of Political Science, Preston Tisch Professor of Judaic Studies and was Director of the Frankel Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Michigan, where he has won several prizes for his excellent teaching.
A summa cum laude graduate of Columbia College, he also received his Masters and Doctoral degrees at Columbia University. Dr. Gitelman is the author or editor of fourteen books and many scholarly articles, including two editions of his acclaimed A Century of Ambivalence: The Jews of Russia and the Soviet Union since 1881, which has also been translated into Russian and Japanese. Zvi Gitelman is a member of the Council of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This year he is a visiting scholar at the Yad Vashem Institute, and at Princeton and Harvard Universities. Since 1989 Dr. Gitelman has been leading study tours to Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. He speaks Hebrew, Yiddish and Russian. |
